Darkness Breaks (Darkness Falls Book 2)
I was sorry to see this rated as only two stars on cable. Science fiction jessica sorensen teen romance paranormal romance. This movie proved that this guy is the best of the best. Ben kingsley was building a very good mandarin character and then that crashed and burned. Kylo is clearly beyond his 30's, been trained as jedi for probably years, but he knows squat about the force. Wes craven gets the writing credits on this one, which could be why it is better than the second installment and the rest to follow.
I really would've liked to have seen the location credits, but i don't have built-in super slow-mo vision. Entranced by jessica sorensen entangled by jessica sorensen enchanted by. An ex-cop boomer who saw his copmate being killed already from the first minute they're shooting decided that he gives it a farewell and wants to be a familyman. Mctiernan is a peerless action director when he's on form see also predator and die hard with a vengeance, and this is his pinnacle, harking from the days when stunts meant stunts, not green-screen.
First time viewers will not necessarily understand but will and might certainly appreciate and perhaps enjoy. Loosely borrowing elements from such films as the towering inferno and black sunday, director john mctiernan boosts up the suspense extremely well, even though some of the violence and profanity are a bit much.
I recall heat having an excellent urban shootout, and the one in the kingdom could give it a run for its money. Not only do no lines matter, none of them do anything at all. If your a person who just wants to watch a lot of action and don't really care as much about the storyline this is a movie for you. See, when watching the specials you tend to not realize just how much profanity is coming out of the mouths of the specials with the exception of amok.
And if you're a hardcore comic book fan, you'll definitely like it, unless you're an irrational marvel fan. Moment arrives that could make or break his entire career,. Though the actors try their best, they are let down by a trite screenplay that is not too much different from other medieval epics like beastmaster and sword of the sorcerer. He is one of the few directors who put their a lot of work in their movies. If the author could not find a way to give Kayla and the others a way to choose to remember or forget without so heavily 'borrowing' then she should have skipped that all together.
I will not be continuing on in this series. However I am sure there are readers who might like this series like those who enjoy the YA Dystopian teen-romance genre. Could have been a really great young adult dystopian novel Darkness falls is all about a girl who's living in a world where vampires are amass.
The world has been in chaos that people were forced to live in a "colony" where freedom is unlikely. Their setting is good. The author knew her thing. Reading this is like watching a movie unfold. What I love about the main character, Kayla, is her fighting abilities.
I still don't know what she is exactl Could have been a really great young adult dystopian novel I still don't know what she is exactly yes, i admit that I am very confused but she's definitely good at killing vampires.
Darkness Falls (Ravenwood Mysteries, #2) by Mia James
The only catch is that she can walk among them.. They're afraid of her, thus, the kickass attitude. The only problem is that she constantly lies about anything that she wants to keep hidden. I hated this. Her head is just full of lies that i couldn't keep up. Can't say i blame her though since her childhood is one hell of a blank and because she has a big amount of memory gap. Her sort-of-love-interest, Aiden, is also a liar. He always says that his lies were meant to protect Kayla. I still feel that they had more lies than truth here. The ending was of course, meant to make readers want to have the next book right away Even with all the lies, the plot of Darkness Falls is definitely awesome so I will definitely read the next one.

So, this book was a mess and it gets two stars because it wasn't a hot mess. There is a lot of potential here but it is very much unrealized.
I will not continue this series. The Good: This is dystopian which is fun to read and see how an author envisions an effed up future. So in this case, our author has created a future where vampires are like zombies - rotting corpses that thirst for blood. The Bad: Nothing really happened in this book.
It was completely and utterly world-building. I'm left wit So, this book was a mess and it gets two stars because it wasn't a hot mess. I'm left with way more questions than answers but since I could care less about this series I'm more so left with a "huh? The Ugly: A lot of false suspense. Page after page of: Do you trust me?
I'll tell you if you come with me. I want to tell you but the time isn't right. If I tell you now, you won't understand. She asks a question and the answer is "you'll find out soon enough", "you'll see", "let's hope you never find out".
So overall I'm not satisfied with this read. Mar 22, Esmeralda rated it did not like it Shelves: vampires , giving-up. Urg, didn't finish. The expectations of this book was high I mean the summary sounds awesome. However, I was disappointed I expected blood vampires, blood, fights, action. I did not get that. Instead I got a annoying Main Character with mood swings and blacks outs.
She didn't remember her past and didn't know what she is. The people kept pricking her with needles for random reasons, during which she saw randoness. I thought she was going to fight vampires but the vampires kept running away from her Urg, didn't finish. I thought she was going to fight vampires but the vampires kept running away from her screaming "No" everytime, WTF??
Half the time I was lost and confused what was going on. The romance was forced and made no sense. I was quite excited to finally read Darkness Falls. I love vampires and I love dystopias, so it sounded right up my alley. Sadly, I was let down. While the premise was great, the world building was lacking. A virus has swept through society in the near future and turned part of the population in vampires. The humans now live underground in a place known as The Colony, which is run by a group of people called Highers. There are also warriors, like Kayla, who I'm actually not sure what th I was quite excited to finally read Darkness Falls.
I'm actually not sure what they do exactly, since it seems like no one wants to go out to fight vampires except for her. One day, Kayla is selected for "the gathering" and wakes up in a body bag outside the city with two other people, including a very creepy little girl. I had so many questions the entire time I was reading Darkness Falls.

This world just makes absolutely no sense to me. Kayla is clearly something more than human, but is she part vampire, part Higher, something else? What exactly is a Higher? Then there's the fact that Kayla doesn't know what bruises, kissing, time, or angels are. No one can read, since books were destroyed when the virus appeared. But what do books have to do with vampires? And this is only 19 years into the future, so surely there are people who can read and can teach the youngsters now.
Apparently not. It just seems like too much change in too little time, and there are lots of holes. Another major problem I had with Darkness Falls was the lack of answers about anything and how conversations just went in circles. Kayla has no memories of pretty much her entire life, but she's told she can get them back. She also meets Aiden, who she knew from before, but he refuses to tell her anything, because she needs to figure it out on her own. When he does offer up information he keeps asking if she's sure she wants to know, or that he'll explain it all to her later.
A later that never comes. Then when someone is finally going to do some accelerated memory retrieval, Aiden stops that because Kayla needs to remember naturally.
Behind the Book
Why does it matter how her memories return?! She and we needs to know what's happened to her! It was a lot of push and pull for nothing. Darkness Falls was just weird for me. I love this premise, but I don't think it was executed well. The world building is incomplete, and the narration is quite jumpy in the beginning since Kayla is constantly blacking out.
We don't get any answers, and frankly, by the end, I didn't really care anymore. Apr 11, Erika rated it really liked it Shelves: read-in Review: I will read anything Jessica Sorensen ever rights! She can right about cockroaches and I will read it! AND I hate anything creepy crawly. She is just that good. Darkness Falls is a riveting new novel, that is bound to be an even more thrilling series!
Kayla has no memory of her past only a brief image being saved and a little boys eyes when she was very young. She feels like she knows that boy, and the his eyes haunt her dreams. Whenever she asks questions Kayla gets in trouble. When she questions the leaders of The Colony, The Highers, she is taken to the red door. Which is has huge significance in the rest of the novel. Minor characters made me wary until I grew to trust them and when I did they had my heart.
There are similar characteristics between the main characters in both series. Also the action is fast paced and you are left questioning everything. Definitely a novel you should get now!! Jul 17, Stephanie Moakes rated it it was amazing. This book shows an apocalyptic future filled with vampires that were created as a result of something humans did but the most intriguing thing is that no one seems to remember life before the virus spread, except Kayla.
Being able to see the end of a story a mile away is something that constantly irritates me because I want to feel shocked and surprised by a character and their decisions. This one really didn't work for me. I thought I'll have a cool dystopian fantasy here, including a badass heroine and a well-built post-apocalypse world. I anticipated a dynamic, exciting story. But all I've got was a poorly written, frustrating mess. It's a mess from the very beginning. The p This one really didn't work for me. The plot is a mess, the characters are horrible, the conversations are stupid, the fighting scenes aren't elaborated well, any of the other scenes, either , not to mention some chapters are barely more than a few paragraphs.
There are so many secrets, so many lies. I guess the way of revealing things was supposed to be making the excitement-level higher, but to be honest, it just makes everything so forced and fake It feels like the author tries way too hard to make this story seem more interesting than it is, and failing pathetically. To be honest, I don't even understand how or why I finished it, what made me keep reading, as I started considering DNF-ing it when I was about Chapter 5.
This first book of the trilogy was more than enough struggle for me, I won't put up with this anymore; I won't read the sequels. Thanks but no thanks. May 30, Tanya rated it liked it. Set in a dystopian world, vampires have taken over and the few remaining humans are in hiding in the Colony, presided over my mysterious figures called The Highers.
Kayla is a bellator, one of the humans whose job it is to go out into the world to retrieve things the colony needs. A promising premise, but to me, something fell flat in the execution. I didn't hate the book, but I'm not rushing out to get the sequel either.

In the beginning I found it hard to get into the book, too many gaps and things not explained, allthough I do now apreicate this is explained later in the book, at the time it was off putting and made it difficult to read and understand exactly what was going on.
That said though, once the storyline got going I was hooked and read it all in a relatively short time span. One of the particular things that bothered me were the errors within in the book. In chapter one, a character has brown eyes, in the next she is now described as having green eyes.
There were typos and punctuation errors, and frankly if I'm forking out cash for a book, I expect better than that. I know I'm not perfect, but hey, you don't find people paying money to read what I've written. Sep 05, Kahlan Ng rated it it was ok. This book was not as good as I expected it to be. It was convoluted and the main character was such a complainer. I got so tired of Aiden's "honey" eyes seriously, every time she mentioned his eyes she had to use "honey" with it. I got it already, give it a rest. I love how every guy just seems to make her melt, except for the dude that actually liked her back and seemed like a nice guy in the Colony.

I don't get any of them and I don't want to after this book. The characters, especially the males, are vapid, lying dicks wow, did I really use that word in a review? I try to keep it clean, oh well! Seriously, Kayla or I assume this was free or cheap since it's on my kindle, thank God. Seriously, Kayla or whoever you are, even if you turn out to be a vampire cyborg with red eyes and likes warm hugs you don't need a single one of these male characters in your life. Hate every single one of them. There are spelling mistakes too, I suppose I should expect that with a freebie.

Mar 06, Jennifer marked it as to-read Shelves: kindle-lending. Aug 08, Cora Crotteau rated it it was amazing. I really did love it. What I found unique in this book is that the story is both dystopian and about vampires.
I love a good dystopian story and if it has some vampires also, even better! So, this book takes 4. Although the plot is great, I have to admit that I would love more details about the story. Sometimes, I was shocked about a revelation and some others I was confused because there were a lot of information without a lot of details.
Nevertheless, the author has create a very unique and promising world that I would love to explore some more! All the characters in this book have an importance and that was one of the best parts of this book. Kayla, is a young girl who lives like an adult in a way. Why I am saying this? She thinks she knows everything about her life but then she learns the truth.
I also have to say that this book was like I was watching an action movie sometimes! Full of adventure and twists it sure keeps the interesting all the time. I truly believe that this is very nice for all those who like a good story! Dec 12, Delphina rated it it was amazing Shelves: favorites. I was a Jessica Sorensen fan from her Falling Star series, so when I found out she was releasing a new series, it immediately went in my "Have To Read" pile. The premise of this book is completely different from The Falling Star, so I was not really sure what to expect.
I was blown away by this story. Yes, in some ways you have the typical, it is the future and the world is a mess stuff, but add to that vampires, humans, day walkers, and highers and you have something that can only be described as, "Wow".
You like and respect her from the beginning. She never falls in to the "poor me" or "why oh why" type mentalities you often see in YA literature. I love vampire stories, but sometimes they can get repetitive. There is nothing about these vamps that sparkle or make you want them to appear in a love story as the love interest. I really enjoyed the way the mystery of the world Kayla is in is unwoven.
Yes, you had the person who sees the future, but you also have magical kisses, someone who can alter your emotions, someone who can unlock you past, and many other talents. I have no idea where that is, but I can tell by the details she uses throughout that it is going to be somewhere great! I just had to keep reading, "just one more chapter". The only problem I have with this series is that I have to wait until the next one comes out. I want it now. Actually, I wanted it yesterday when I finished the book. I will definitely be reading the next book on release day!!!!

These people know h Darkness Falls by Jessica Sorenson is a vampire fantasy novel about Kayla, a teen growing up in a world over ran by vampires. Kayla discovers the Highers have been keeping secrets. The story is well written and well edited and the kindle formatting is done professionally. I followed the storyline fine but I can see how others might find it confusing.
You really have to pay attention to understand and there are areas where I think there may have been mishaps concerning a particular male character that is with Kayla when she wakes up after the gathering. Maybe the group outside The Colony was lying about his death. Also, this novel only brings up more questions as you go along and nothing is resolved, a tactic many self-pub authors use to get you to buy another book.
Therefore, you will have to continue to the next book. I did find the story interesting and do recommend trying it if you are into vampire stories. The story, so far, does have a unique set up and promises something different. I hope that the whole series delivers. May 12, Marsha rated it it was ok Recommends it for: Young Adults. No one seems to know or remember what happens in the Gathering but when Kayla awakens she is in a body bag on the outskirts of the Colony. She hears voices coming from two other bags and when she opens them, she discovers a young girl, Maci and another soldier.
Maci is clairvoyant and instructs them as to what they need to do to survive. On the outskirts their are deadly vampires who are the equivalent of zombies. They roam the countryside looking for flesh and blood to feed upon. When they do not find it, they feed off of themselves. When the vamps attempt to attack Kayla, they run away from her instead.
Everyone is wondering why they are afraid of her. But, then, the trio is rescued by a group and taken to an underground facility where they are feed and questioned. They tell Kala that they can restore her memories slowly but they also have a hidden agenda. I found the plot for this story both convoluted and frustrating. Then, I hated the way a chapter would get to a major fight or conflict and the author just fades away from the event and alludes to its conclusion later on in a new chapter. It was not clever, just irritating. Also, the typos in this book did not help my reading enjoyment.
In the end, I did not hate this book; nor did I like it. I will not be continuing on with the next book in the series. They can't go outside because of the vampires, humans that were transformed because of the disease. Kayla being a Bellator is sent outside The Colony where the vampires are to bring back supplies. They have three rules to follow to survive.
The rules are: 1. Never go out after dark. Always carry a weapon. No matter what, never EVER get bit. The Highers run The Colony and have strick rules that must be followed. Kayla tries very hard to follow these rules but she does not like not being her own boss and rebels aginst the Highers. She is then chosen for The Gathering. The Gathering is where they throw you out into the outside world where the vampires are.
As far as Kayla or anyone knows no one has ever survived in the outside world with the vampires. She meets Aiden along with other surviviors on the outside and realizes that the Highers have been lying to them the whole time. Kayla was being transformed into the best warrior by Monarch secretly to fight the Highers in order to save the world. Can she save the world? Will she be the best warrior? Will she lose all of her the skills that Monarch gave her? I don't know I can't wait for book 2. I hope that all that was not revealed in book 1 will be revealed in book 2.
I hope in book 2 that we will find out more about Kayla who she was, what caused the disease and why were they transformed into vampires? This book was a tangled mess. Like walking through a maze without finding the way out. I spent the whole time trying to figure out what Kayla was, what Monarch did, what everyone on the outside wanted with Kayla and every time there would be more and more information to process. You have the Highers, the vampires, the Bellators, the other people in the Colony, then there's the Gathering which I still have no idea what it is.
Just a way to dispose of people? Oh, and each survivor of the Gathering has some kind of power. It's a little too much for my taste, especially since most of it wasn't even explained. By the end of the book i got to know a tiny little bit about each race but i still know nothing concrete about them. I don't know if i liked or hated Kayla.
